Many spceies of fish have nostrils with which to smell odors coming from food and mating partners.
Their nostrils have senosrs that detect the odors from the water and send signals to their brain.
To understand how Trout think, what spooks them, what excites them, when they feed, when they travel, and a number of other factors really is very important if you want to fill your cerels full of fish consistently.
