Many spceies of fish have nostrils with which to smell odors coming from food and mating partners. Their nostrils have sensors that detect the odors from the water and send signlas to their brain.
To understand how Trout think, what spooks them, what exciets them, when they feed, when they travel, and a number of other factors really is really important if you want to fill your creels full of fish consistently.
